The Bombay High Court has rejected Meta's plea to move a Rs 1,000-crore commercial suit filed by digital advertising agency Blink Digital to California. Justice Sandeep V Marne ruled that a private contract cannot override mandatory Indian laws, and that California courts could not decide allegations involving India's Information Technology rules. The dispute began after Meta disabled four of Blink Digital's business manager accounts and around 9,000 advertising accounts in August 2026. The court also noted that Meta's Indian arm, Facebook India, had itself raised no objection to the court's jurisdiction, so Meta could not object on its behalf. The suit will now proceed in Mumbai, with Blink Digital's interim relief plea listed for 2 November.

A banking court has completed scrutiny of the charge sheet in the foreign funding case against PTI founder Imran Khan and other accused, adjourning further proceedings until November 30. A Pakistani anti-terrorism court in Lahore has sentenced prominent human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha to 10 years in prison in a security breach case, her family said on Thursday. Mazari is known for speaking out against the disappearances of political activists and for defending minorities and journalists. Her mother, former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, told Reuters they were not permitted to defend themselves through their own lawyer and were not given key legal documents. Law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has repeatedly said the judiciary is independent. The couple have been in custody since their arrest on 23 January in a separate case over social media posts that prosecutors said were anti-state.

A court in Damascus has sentenced a man affiliated with the Iran-linked Liwa al-Quds militia to life imprisonment after convicting him of joining an armed group accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, state news agency SANA reported. Abdul Jabbar Ghazi Arziq was found guilty of joining a group linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, which the court said sought to incite civil war and sectarian conflict and seize cities. The prosecution said grave crimes are not erased by political changes, and the court ruled he will not be eligible for a general or special amnesty.

An Egyptian court has ordered the closure of Mada Masr, one of the country's best-known independent news websites, after convicting its editor-in-chief Lina Attalah of running it without a licence. The New Cairo Misdemeanour Court imposed the maximum fine of three million Egyptian pounds, about $53,400, ordered the confiscation of the outlet's equipment and property, and held Attalah in custody until the fine was paid. Her lawyers plan to appeal. The outlet, founded in 2013 and blocked in Egypt since 2017, says it applied for a licence several times since 2018 without ever receiving a response. Rights groups including Amnesty International called the ruling a crushing blow to press freedom.
