Police said Asmatullah was killed on the spot at around 4pm. A police team reached the scene, examined it and started an investigation, while no group had claimed responsibility. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says drug-resistant germs cause an estimated 9.7 million infections and 50,800 deaths in the United States each year, based on 2023 figures in its 2026 Antimicrobial Resistance Threats Report. Four of the 19 tracked pathogens are rated urgent: Candida auris, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and drug-resistant gonorrhoea. Thirteen are rated serious and two concerning, while C. difficile was downgraded from urgent to serious after infection-control gains in hospitals. The CDC says the new methods mean the figures should not be compared directly with its 2019 report.
