Annual energy inflation in Latin America and the Caribbean rose to 8.33 percent in August, its highest level in twelve months, according to a report by the Latin American Energy Organization cited on 28 October. Diesel prices rose faster than petrol, reaching $1.41 a litre in October, level with petrol and the highest of the year, after diesel climbed 26 percent since February against 18 percent for petrol. The report links the pressure to the renewed Iran-United States hostilities in July and warns that rising diesel costs hit freight, passenger transport, farm machinery and the distribution of goods hardest.
