Pakistan retaliates after Afghan Taliban fire on border posts in South Waziristan

Pakistan retaliated after Afghan Taliban fighters opened fire on border posts in South Waziristan, according to reports. Pakistani forces responded to the firing along the frontier, in the latest flare-up in a long-running pattern of border clashes between the two sides. The incident adds to tensions over militant attacks that Pakistan says are launched from Afghan soil, a charge Kabul denies.

Terrorism is a red line, Pakistan warns Afghanistan over cross-border threats

Pakistan has warned Afghanistan that terrorism is a red line and that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures, under international law, to end cross-border terror threats. In a statement on Saturday night, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the security of Pakistani citizens was non-negotiable and would not be held hostage to the Afghan Taliban government's inaction. It accused the Taliban leadership of blaming Islamabad instead of acting against militant sanctuaries on Afghan soil, and said Kabul must recognise that the responsibility for dealing with these threats rests with it.

Pakistan says Afghanistan's refusal on terrorism blocks normal ties

Pakistan's information ministry said on Saturday that the Afghan government's refusal to address cross-border terrorism remains the main obstacle to normal relations between the two neighbours. The statement answered Afghan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, who had blamed Islamabad's policies for the failure to resolve tensions. Pakistan said terrorism is a red line, its citizens' security is non-negotiable, and it reserves the right to take all necessary measures under international law to remove threats to its security. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to act against militant groups it says operate from Afghan soil, including the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

US plans to deport over 150 Afghans to Afghanistan via Pakistan, advocates warn of danger

US plans to deport over 150 Afghans to Afghanistan via Pakistan, advocates warn of danger

The Trump administration plans to deport more than 150 Afghan immigrants back to Afghanistan via Pakistan, according to US media reports citing officials, with the first flight expected as soon as Monday. Because Washington has no diplomatic ties with the Taliban government, Pakistan would oversee their onward expulsion to Afghanistan. Advocacy groups warn the move could endanger their lives, saying some of those facing removal are relatives of Afghans who assisted US forces before the fall of Kabul in 2021, and that the Taliban already has reason to target such families. The Department of Homeland Security declined to confirm future removal operations, citing operational security.

Pakistan warns UN of Taliban repression, cites 4,700 killed in attacks from Afghan soil

Pakistan has told the United Nations that the Taliban continue to allow terrorist groups to operate from Afghan soil, warning that it will exercise its right to self-defence against threats to its citizens. Addressing the UN Human Rights Council's dialogue on Afghanistan, counsellor Muhammad Jawad Ajmal said more than 4,700 Pakistanis had been killed in terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan over the past three years. Separately, UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett told the General Assembly that five years after seizing power, the Taliban had shown no willingness to reverse systematic rights violations, including arbitrary detention, torture, sexual violence, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, and he urged states not to normalise relations with Kabul until its policies change. Pakistan also pointed to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation women's conference it hosted in Islamabad in July, whose declaration said Taliban restrictions on women and girls were inconsistent with Islamic values.

Pakistan has warned at the United Nations that the Taliban continue to allow terrorist groups to operate from Afghan soil, telling a UN dialogue that more than 4,700 Pakistanis have been killed in attacks originating from Afghanistan over the past three years. Pakistan's representative said the country cannot sit idle in the face of cross-border terrorism and has the right to respond in self-defence. Separately, the UN special rapporteur on Afghanistan urged member states not to normalise relations with the Kabul regime until it reverses systematic rights violations, citing arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances and restrictions on women and girls.

Pakistan urges Afghanistan to take verifiable action against militants

Pakistan has urged Afghanistan's Taliban government to take verifiable action against militants it says operate from Afghan territory, dismissing Kabul's claim that Islamabad is shifting blame for its own security failures. Pakistan's Information Ministry pointed to international assessments about the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, estimated at 4,000 to 6,000 fighters, and rejected allegations that Pakistan is arming or recruiting Afghans. The exchange comes amid heightened tensions, repeated border clashes and Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan.
