Joel Coen's 'Jack of Spades' lands at Netflix for fall 2027 release

Key points

  • Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Joel Coen's gothic mystery film 'Jack of Spades' and plans a theatrical release in fall 2027 before it arrives on the streaming service later that year.
  • The film stars Patsy Ferran and Josh O'Connor, alongside Damian Lewis and Lesley Manville, and is set in the Scottish Highlands in the late 19th century.
  • It is adapted from Frances Frederica Montresor's 1901 novel 'The Alien: A Story of Middle Age', with a screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen, Eleanor Catton and Conor McPherson.

Netflix describes it as a sinister tale of intrigue and betrayal, and the cinema-first release positions it as a possible awards-season contender.
