Finland's Stubb denies Putin gave history lecture on call

Key points

  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb has denied reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin spent most of their 27 October phone call giving a lecture on Slavic history.
  • Stubb said speaking time was shared evenly, and that he and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store made the call at Ukraine's request to open a direct channel to Moscow.
  • He stressed that Finland is not acting as a mediator, but supports Ukraine fully.
